Unity

Let's talk about Unity, which is a state of being at one or having harmony with a group of people. For believers this would look like a church. The foundation would rest on the love of Jesus and the cross. Non-believers being in one accord would be similar interests, or hobbies. The difference is without a solid foundation relationships will not be able to be united together. I do not always agree with everyone at my church, but I do have a loving heart towards them, because we are all striving to be closer to our Savior. The problem often lies with those outside of my beliefs.
I have had a friend for over twenty years, we have been through a lot together. My friend doesn't know God as her Savior or Friend, she knows of His existence. I have not always agreed with what my friend does, but I have always tried to give her wise advice even before I was truly saved. To this day, she remains in the same loop of despair and troubled heart. I went to the gym with her just last week and the conversations felt more distant than usual. I didn't seem to have much to say. The jokes didn't seem as funny, and our bond didn't seem as strong. Being separate from the world means being distanced from those who remain engulfed by its desires.
I have been praying for my friend, but that's all I am called to do. I can't make her change her ways or make better decisions. This saddens me because we were as thick as thieves at one point in our lives. I've known her longer than I have known my husband or most people in my life. Sometimes in order to grow we must prune the branches.
Psalm 133:1-3
With division creeping its way into the churches, I can only imagine how hard it is for those without God as a solid rock. In these verses David describes how good it is to have unity within those who know God. The ability to be able to come and worship, giving thanks and celebrating God. Hebrews 10:25 supports this motion of unity saying not to forsake fellowship. When believers come together it isn't just people hanging out, but it is anointing God's people binded by his spirit and love. The two illustrations used in these verses represent God's blessing on Christian unity.
You can't have Godly unity with unGodly people, nor can you do unGodly behavior with those who are true to the Lord. We are called to be separate for a reason. It's hard to break some bonds, but God will always bless you for following Him.
Do you have Unity with those in your life or is God pulling you in a different direction?
Choose God and He will place people in your life. who have the solid foundation of Christ.
Dear Friend.
God, that's what You are, a Friend Who knows me better than anyone. You are also more than that. You are my Father, my Creator, my Protector! God, I thank You for blessing us with Christian unity and blessing us with the foundation of the cross. I thank You for filling our souls with the Holy Spirit and showing us how amazing heaven one day will be, where we all are in unity worshiping You. Thank You for showing me to pray for those around me who are not saved. I pray that You will touch their lives and that your will be done. It is hard to have distance between the people we love, but our desires do not line up and you have better in store for us than the empty promises the world can offer. God, I pray that we always choose You, even if it means making those hard decisions. I thank You for this blessing of unity and the love we get to share just knowing and believing in You. I pray we can be a witness to others and still know that You do the saving. I pray that we will make the choice to do what is right by You and choose to have unity within our social groups. I pray we have more of Your love inside the church, that it can't help but to overflow into our daily lives.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen
