Knock Me Down

You build me up to knock me down.
I feel like I’m on a merry-go-round.
You’re my best friend, then you push me away.
You hold me close but you never stay.
You say nice things, make me feel special.
Then turn around and make me feel mental.
Piece by piece I let you in,
Having to put up my guard again.
God I give this friendship to you
Every time I pick it up I feel blue.
Why do I look toward the approval over others?
I know, it’s a habit the result of my mother.
No one to blame, time to grow up.
Look only to God to fill my cup.
To love so deep, so much it hurts,
To have a heart so full it could burst.
Forgive me Lord, putting others first.
Help me turn to you with my hunger and thirst.
